We have been dealing with an Extreme Drought this year.
Still in a Drought
It has been a tough several years for the preserve and most of Texas. We have had little or no rain since September and most of the ponds and lakes in the hill country are drying up. Wildlife has had a stressful season due to the lack of water, food and high tempertures. Birds are staying close to the water and hiding out in the heat of the day. We have noticed a larger number of Northern Bobwhite Quail this year. We have kept track of 9 groups around the preserve, even getting to see the babies this year.
Let's hope we get more rain soon.
